Start Your Driving Adventure Today!

Start Your Driving Adventure Today!

Learning to drive in the UK is an exciting journey, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. Not sure where to start? Let’s break it down step by step.

Ready to Hit the Road?

Before you can begin your driving adventure, you must meet some basic requirements. The minimum age to drive a car is 17, while it’s 16 for mopeds and light quad bikes. Ensuring you meet the minimum eyesight standards is essential. While there’s no formal eye examination, during your practical driving test you’ll be asked to read a license plate from 20 meters away. If you have any eyesight issues, make sure to inform the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) when applying for your provisional driving license.

Getting Your Provisional License

To apply for a provisional driving license, you must have been granted permission to live in the UK for a minimum of 185 days. You can apply online through the DVLA and pay a fee of £34. While severe delays were observed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the waiting time for a provisional driving license now typically ranges from 2 to 4 weeks. However, occasional delays may still occur. To avoid such issues, ensure that you provide all necessary documents accurately and keep an eye on your application’s progress. If you face unexpected delays, consider contacting the DVLA for assistance, but wait at least 4 weeks after submitting your application.

Choosing the Right Driving Course

Once you have your provisional license, it’s time to select the right driving course and instructor. Decide whether you prefer a manual or automatic transmission. Look for an ADI-registered driving instructor or one with a trainee driving instructor license. Opt for an experienced driving school, and don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations from friends or family who recently learned to drive. You can also check reviews on platforms like Trustpilot. Make sure the driving instructors of your choice operate in your area, and you can easily find this information by searching online. The simplest way to find recommended driving instructors near you, considering you live – e.g. – in Aberdeen or Exeter – is googling “best driving lessons Aberdeen”, “best driving instructors Exeter” or simply “best driving course in my area”, “best driving instructors in my area”, “most recommended driving school near me” etc.

The average UK driving course consists of approximately 45 hours of lessons, but this can vary based on individual abilities and lesson frequency. Some may need more or fewer hours to prepare for the driving test. Keep in mind that these hours are typically spread over several weeks or months, depending on your schedule. It usually takes several months to complete both theory and practical training. A good driving course should provide study materials and guidance for booking the theory test. Be aware that the practical test typically has a waiting time of about 6 months.

Fast-Track Your Way to a Driver’s License

To speed up the process, driving course providers like Pass in Days offer intensive driving lessons and fast-track practical test bookings. Dedicated staff members actively search for last-minute test cancellations. This can dramatically reduce your waiting time from 6 months to just 1-2 weeks. If you’re eager to get your license quickly, search for the most recommended driving school offering crash courses or intensive driving lessons in your area. Again, the simplest way to do that is to search the Internet for “fast-track driving courses in my area”, “intensive driving lessons Glasgow”, “crash driving course Bristol” (depending on the place of your residence), etc. Intensive courses can take as little as 5 to 10 days, spread over 1 or 2 weeks, enabling you to gain immediate independence for commuting, work, and personal commitments.

Throughout this journey, remember that persistence is key. Learning to drive can be challenging, but with proper preparation, a qualified instructor, and patience, you’ll soon become a skilled and responsible driver. If you’re in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Bristol, Exeter, or nearby areas, reach out to Pass in Days for expert guidance on enrolling in a driving course. Fast track your way to a driver’s license with us!
