What If I Fail My Driving Test?

Let’s be honest—finding a driving test these days is tough. DVSA waiting lists can stretch for months, and in many cities such as Bristol, Exeter, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow there are no spaces left for this year. This is why, when you finally get your chance, you want to pass your test at the first attempt.

At Pass in Days, we understand how frustrating that can be. That’s why we include a fast-track driving test as part of every intensive course. We work exclusively with experienced ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors) who will give you excellent training tailored to your needs. As you can see on our Facebook page, a lot of our learners pass at their first attempt.

But what is the process of obtaining your fast-track driving test date? And what happens if you happen to fail your test?

What happens after you book?

We have a member of staff who manually searches for cancellations for 8 hours a day. Our team gets to work once you’ve passed your theory test and submitted your test request form. We’ll send you full instructions after you book. In most cases, we’re able to secure a test date up to 90% faster than standard wait times, as long as you’re safe and ready.

Your lessons will take place in your instructor’s car, giving you practical, hands-on experience from day one.

To make the most of your course, we recommend passing your theory test around a month before your driving lessons begin. However, it’s still a good idea to book your course in advance, as this gives you access to our theory study materials and allows you to prepare at your own pace while we sort out the rest.

When should you request your driving test?

With us, you have two choices when it comes to booking a driving test:

Option 1: Ask us to begin searching for your test before your course starts. This can allow you to take the test shortly after finishing your lessons. However, if you’re not quite ready, rescheduling might not be possible, and you could lose the test fee (£62). Please note that instructors can only take candidates to test if they’re safe and test-ready.

Option 2: Begin your lessons first, then request your test when you feel confident. You may need to wait a little longer for a test date and possibly book a few extra lessons to stay on track. However, this option offers more flexibility and reduces the risk of losing your fee.

Unsure if you’ll be ready in time?

That is understandable. Everyone progresses at their own pace. While we can’t guarantee a pass (see our article about the myth of a guaranteed pass), our experienced instructors will work with you to build the confidence and skills you need to succeed. At Pass in Days, we work exclusively with fully qualified, DVSA-approved instructors (ADIs). These professionals have completed all parts of the instructor training process and bring real value to every lesson. Their goal is not just to get you through the course—but to prepare you for your driving test.

At the end of your course, you’ll complete a mock driving test. If both you and your instructor feel you’re ready, you’ll go on to sit your actual driving test shortly after. If not, you can take additional lessons on a pay-as-you-go basis, subject to your instructor’s availability.

And if you don’t pass the first time?

This can happen.

And if it does, it’s important to know what to do next. Your instructor will provide constructive feedback and help you create a plan for moving forward.

If you don’t pass your driving test, you’ll need to rebook it for a fee of £62. You also have the option to take additional lessons with your instructor on a pay-as-you-go basis.

If you’d like assistance in securing an earlier test date, we offer a Fast-Track Test Booking Service. Because of the time and effort involved, the service is priced at £299 (including VAT and your test fee). Any extra lesson hours or car hire for the test should be arranged and paid for directly with your instructor.

Failing isn’t the end—it’s simply part of the learning process. With determination and the right support, you will succeeded.
