What’s Easier: Edinburgh Currie or Musselburgh?

When preparing for your driving test in Edinburgh, one big decision is choosing the right test centre. The two main options are Currie and Musselburgh. But which one is easier?

Currie Driving Test Centre

Current Address: 13-15 Bryce Road, Currie, Edinburgh, EH14 5LT

Currie is in the suburbs of Edinburgh, offering a mix of busy roads and quieter residential streets. You’ll likely encounter the Edinburgh bypass and the A71, both crucial to practice before your test.

Test routes here often include roundabouts, crossroads, and complex junctions. These are challenging areas but manageable with good preparation. Local instructors familiar with Currie routes can guide you through tricky spots like Sighthill roundabouts and bus lanes.

Many learners appreciate the quiet nature of the roads during non-peak hours.

According to the latest DVSA data (as of 27.12.2024), Currie’s pass rate is 42.7%.

Musselburgh Driving Test Centre

Current Address: Newhailes Industrial Estate, Newhailes Road, Olivebank, Musselburgh, City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, EH21 6SJ

Located just outside Edinburgh, Musselburgh offers a different driving experience. Expect a mix of suburban streets and country roads. These routes often include variable speed limits, especially near schools.

Learners taking their test in Musselburgh report fewer roundabouts compared to Currie, making it less intimidating for some. The country roads provide a scenic drive, but they require focus due to sharp bends and narrow lanes.

According to the latest DVSA data (as of 27.12.2024), Musselburgh’s pass rate is 48%.

What About the Theory?

Before taking your practical test, you’ll need to pass your theory test.

Current Address: Buzzer 5, Second Floor, 4 Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1JE

Located in central Edinburgh, the theory test centre is easily accessible by public transport. At Pass in Days, our driving courses in Edinburgh include study materials to help you prepare for the theory test and pass with confidence. Check our FAQ for more details!

What to Choose: Currie or Musselburgh?

While Currie and Musselburgh have unique characteristics, the driving test requirements remain the same nationwide. Both centres assess your ability to drive safely and confidently under various conditions. Choosing a driving instructor who knows the area well is key to mastering the routes and feeling prepared for the test day.
