Perfect Time for Driving Lessons in the UK

Learning to drive is a crucial milestone that brings independence and freedom. For many, the summer holidays seem like the ideal time to start a driving course. This results in particularly high demand for driving lessons in the UK during July and August. Some driving courses companies in the UK, such as Pass in Days, added extra spaces for summer driving courses due to high demand. However, these are filling up quickly!

As the summer spaces are selling out, isn’t it worth considering the benefits of booking your driving course for the late summer or autumn to skip instructors’ busy schedules?

Why Many Choose Summer for Their Driving Course

1. Time off

First, with school out of session, students have more free time, allowing them to focus fully on driving lessons without the distraction of schoolwork and extracurricular activities. Summer, with its time off from school, college or university, makes it easier for young people to accommodate to the instructor’s availability – for example to morning or early afternoon lessons.

2. Mild weather

The season typically brings relatively clear skies and dry roads, which create a more comfortable environment for new drivers. The longer daylight hours provide optimal visibility, which is important for novices as they learn to navigate the roads. Moreover, stable driving conditions during summer allow learners to focus on mastering the basics without the added challenge of bad weather.

3. Convenience and confidence

Summer offers increased practice opportunities, which are essential for building confidence and skill behind the wheel. Extended daylight hours allow for more practice time in various driving conditions. With fewer obligations during the summer, students can schedule more frequent driving lessons and practice sessions, reinforcing good driving habits. Completing a driving course during the summer also prepares students to start the school year with a new level of independence and confidence, ready to drive to college or accept a new job that requires driving.

Why Consider September or October for Your Driving Lessons?

1. Less Crowded Schedules

During the summer, driving instructors in cities like Aberdeen, Glasgow, Exeter, and Bristol are extremely busy, making it difficult to secure lesson slots. Getting on a cancellation list is highly improbable as students rarely cancel during this peak period. By considering spaces for autumn, you might find it easier to book your preferred times. It’s better to wait a few weeks, which will pass by quickly, and have your space secured.

2. Diverse Weather Conditions

Driving in autumn means encountering varied weather conditions, from clear mornings to rain-soaked afternoons. This variety is beneficial as it prepares you for the unpredictable nature of UK weather, making you a more confident and capable driver. Learning to drive in different conditions ensures you are well-prepared for any scenario once you have your licence. Also, autumn in the UK offers some of the most picturesque drives, with the changing leaves creating stunning landscapes!

3. Safe Driving in Autumn

Search for driving courses companies which work with Approved Driving Instructors only, such as Pass in Days. An experienced professional will teach you how to drive safely in all weather conditions.

Fog is common in autumn. Your instructor will advise you to slow down, when possible use dipped and fog lights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. At junctions, you will learn to listen for traffic if visibility is poor and be cautious of black ice. Stormy weather can lead to heavy rain and strong winds. The instructor will teach you to avoid driving through deep water, and be prepared for sudden gusts on open roads. During your lessons, remember to use sunglasses to combat glare from the low autumn sun and keep your windscreen clean. Lastly, wet leaves can make roads slippery and hide potholes, so drive carefully. Be vigilant around schools and rural areas for children and wildlife, especially in low light conditions.

4. What About Driving Tests?

Some driving course companies, such as Pass in Days, offer fast-track driving tests, thus allowing you to skip the regular waiting time that can be up to six months. In autumn, it is even easier to secure early driving tests compared to the summer. This means you can have your driving licence as soon as possible after completing the course, provided you are safe and ready. Fast-track options are a great advantage for those who wish to become licensed drivers without the lengthy wait times typically associated with standard driving tests. Pass in Days secures most driving tests within a week or two after the course, provided you are deemed ready by your instructor.
