Realistic approach to fast-track driving tests in the UK

Are you wondering how to find an early driving test? Struggling with year-long waiting times? You’re not alone. At Pass in Days, we offer intensive driving courses with fast-track driving tests included—helping you get on the road sooner. However, staying realistic is key to your success as a safe and responsible future driver.

What is a fast-track driving test?

A fast-track driving test is an earlier-than-usual driving test slot. It’s not a special DVSA service—it means finding cancellations and booking them fast.

At Pass in Days, we search the DVSA system daily, looking for cancellations. Thanks to our dedicated staff and time-intensive process, we usually find test slots up to 90% faster than standard waiting times.

Every course at Pass in Days includes one fast-track driving test in the price. You don’t need to pay extra for your first test. We handle the search and booking.

But please remember: we do not control the DVSA. We do not have secret access. We work hard—often checking the system hundreds of times continously—to find tests for you. No app can replace manual work, especially now that the DVSA uses image-based tests to block bots. Simply put: to successfully find a cancellation slot, you have to prove you’re human… and very often wait in a queue of tens of thousands of other users.

Here’s how it looks like:

What’s happening with DVSA tests right now?

Right now, test availability is extremely limited. In most places, there are no tests left for the rest of the year. People booking on their own often face 6 to 12 months of waiting.

Despite this, we still find and secure fast-track tests up to 90% faster than the standard waiting times: in just a few days to several weeks after your course.

This is much better than waiting for half a year or more. But it’s important to be realistic. We do not promise specific dates before you book, because this is technically impossible. Also, please note that some areas might be more difficult for reasons beyond our control due to DVSA issues, such as renovation works.

Can I take the test on the last day of my course?

Some learners hope to take the test on the final course day. This is very unlikely. Test slots depend on cancellations, which we cannot control. Instead, on the last day, your instructor will assess you with a mock test to make sure you are safe and ready, point out your streanghts and weaknesses, and give you constructive feedback.

If there’s a gap between your course and your test, don’t worry! You are not going to forget how to drive in a few days or weeks. Also, you can take extra lessons to stay sharp (charged at standard instructor rates, subject to availability).

How to get the best results

Here’s our advice:

1. Pass your theory test on time

Ideally, one month before your course. This lets us start searching for a practical driving test as early as possible. Most of our customers book their driving course in advance (which is recommended due to high demand!) and do their theory in the meantime. At Pass in Days, we provide excellent theory study materials from Theory Test Pro to help you get prepared. The theory test itself needs to be booked separately witht he DVSA for £23. Don’t worry, waiting times for theory tests are not that long.

2. Be realistic with test timing

We understand that time is of the essence, which is why we offer driving lessons in an intensive format and work hard on securing early driving tests. However, what matters most is your skills and your safety.

If you request a test too early and you’re not ready, you might lose your test fee and wait months for another slot. What is the most reasonable approach then? We introduce two options to our customers:

  • Fast-track option: Test soon after the course—a little more pressure, but quicker results.
  • Safe option: Start the course, assess your readiness, then request the test—more control.

Driving test in the UK and a guaranteed pass

We can’t promise you’ll pass. No one can (see our blog article on guaranteed pass). But we give you the best possible foundation. Our driving instructors, all fully trained, experienced and approved by the DVSA, will only let you take the test if you’re genuinely ready. And that helps protect your result.

What if I want to find my own test?

That’s your choice! But keep in mind:

  • It may take weeks or months of continuous daily checks.
  • There may be no slots left this year.
  • We typically book 60–100 test slots per month—this takes time and effort.

Why choose Pass in Days?

  • Realistic approach, no empty promises
  • Excellent reviews on Trustpilot
  • One fast-track driving test included
  • Approved Driving Instructors only
  • Faster test booking than average, even with the current DVSA delays
